Abstract:

From the second half of the 19th century, with the legal incentives of the Ottoman State, qualified German immigrants began to be placed in Anadolu. This economic-based immigration policy has, on the other hand, made it necessary to be cautious against the German potential colonial activities. The German colony, settled in Amassia in the 1850s, is an important example in this framework. The German colony, which produces silk in Amassia, is subject to assessment in terms of Turkish-German relations. On the other hand, in this resolution, through the example of Amasya, it is revealed that due to the sensitivity that the Ottoman State feels against external interventions and cultural incoherence between the two communities, the policy of placing German immigrants in Turkey has not produced effective consequences.
