Abstract:

Bedâyi’u’l-vekâyi, which was written in Persian by Zeynüddîn-i Vâsıfî, draws attention especially with the information it contains about Turkish cultural and social life. In this study, the translation of three chapters in Bedâyi’u’l-vekâyi, which sheds light on the Turkish cultural life in the geography of Turkestan, will be included. The first one is about Hâce Nizâmülmülk-i Hafî, the vizier of Sultan Hüseyn-i Baykara. This section is also noteworthy in that it includes the evaluation of the poets about the merits written on the killing of Muhammad Mü’min Mîrzâ and the leading persons who were killed at that time for various reasons. The second part of the book includes a council in which Vâsıfî, the author of the book, was invited by Hâce Yûsuf-ı Melâmetî when he was in Samarkand. In the third chapter, the virtues of Mevlana Benâ’î and some of the jokes that took place between Alî Şîr Nevâ’î, one of the important representatives of his Turkish literature, are mentioned. Here, the jokes between Alî Şîr Nevâ’î and Şîralî Müzehhib, Nâsır-ı Reng-rîz, Kadı-zâde and Hâfız Gıyâsüddî are also included.
