This study has been done to determine hypertension prevalence in the population aged 30 plus in Hisarcık Ahmet Karamancı Health Center Kıranardı Region and the etiological factors between September-December 1999. İt total of 830 people and living in Kıranardı Village Hisarcık Ahmet Karamancı Health Center were taken for the study. The sample to be taken was calculated as 233 people and taking 415 people was planned with 50% sample test. Making ½ systematic sample test from Family Fix Counters chose the sample. The questionnaire was administered to 400 people who had agreed to join the study were done twice with an interval of 5 minutes, also weight and height measurement and blood pressure measurement. Of the sample 29.7% said that they had never their blood pressure taken. The hypertension prevalence was determined as 37.0% in the study. It was determined that of the people identified as hypertensive for the people with hypertension 45.9% were aware of this disease and 24.4% of them had been receiving treatment. While the difference between sex, smoking and daily activity and hypertension prevalence was not meaningful, the prevalence was higher in people who were older, had low educational level, high body mess index and use up animal oil. The promotion of application to health centers and organization of educational programs related with the risk factors in hypertension, as well as routine screening in health center regions are thought to be useful in determining hypertension at an earlier stage
