When intercultural dialogue is considered, cultural and artistic exchange cannot be considered separately. Culture is the historical whole of a nations creation of values. Within this whole, the language, feeling of identity, beliefs, traditions, aesthetic dimensions of that nation are the leading ones. Art, on the other hand, is the level of that specific nation. Hence, it shows itself as the whole of that nations centuries of lived experiences. For almost fifty years, Turkish population living in Germany, from a socio-cultural perspective, serve as a bridge between those two countries. The fourth generation living in Germany whom we call German Turks or guest-workers show themselves both in economic as well as in cultural ways. This survey-based study focuses on the interests and choices of those Turks living in Germany in terms of the types of music to which they listen in the regions of Krefeld, Essen, Duisburg, Leverkusen, Neuss, Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen located in Germanys North Rhine-Westphalia from a historical perspective. Nineteen choirs and music groups with different ambitions and principles are contacted and the types of music with which they are involved along with their aims and objectives are interrogated.
