Çalışmanın amacı Mersin ilinin Gülnar ilçesinde bulunan Fen Bilimleri öğretmenlerinin Mersin-Gülnar-Akkuyu bölgesine yapılması planlanan nükleer santrale ilişkin görüşlerinin belirlenmesidir. Bu araştırma nitel araştırma yaklaşımlarından durum çalışmasına göre gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Akkuyu bölgesinde görev yapmakta olan beş Fen Bilimleri öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada, öğretmenlere araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen 10 soru sorulmuştur. Sorular Akkuyu bölgesinde kurulma aşamasında olan santral ile ilgili olarak hazırlanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler içerik analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda öğretmenlerin nükleer enerji hakkında istenilen düzeyde bilgi sahibi olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır Ayrıca öğretmenlerin genellikle internet aracılığı ile bilgi edindiği tespit edilmiştir. Mülakat bulgularında öğretmelerin enerji ihtiyacını karşılaması ve dışa bağımlılığı azaltması açısından nükleer santrallere olumlu baktığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ancak katılımcılar santrallerin patlaması durumunda ortaya çıkan uzun süreli etkiden dolayı ve ekosistemi bozabileceği endişesinden dolayı nükleer santrallerin zararlı olabileceğini belirtmişlerdir. Bu araştırmada katılımcıların nükleer santralin kurulmasından dolayı ilk zamanlarda tedirginlik yaşadığı ancak zaman içinde bölgede yapılan aktif tanıtım kampanyalarının etkisiyle kısmen ikna olduğu ve genel olarak olumlu bakış açısına sahip olduğu çarpıcı bir sonuç olarak görülmüştür. Bunun yanı sıra öğretmenlerin nükleer enerjinin olumlu ve olumsuz yönlerine ilişkin bilgi sahibi olduğu düşünülmektedir. Elde edilen sonuçlar ışığında araştırma sonunda bazı önerilere yer verilmiştir.
The aim of the study is to determine the views of the teachers of science located in the Gulnar district of Mersin-Gülnar-Akkuyu area about the planned nuclear power plant. This research has been conducted according to the state study of the quality research approaches. The research work group consists of five scientists who work in the Akkuyu region. In the study, teachers were asked 10 questions developed by researchers. Questions are prepared in relation to the plant that is in the construction stage in the Akkuyu area. The data obtained was analyzed by content analysis. The research finds that teachers have the desired level of knowledge about nuclear energy and that teachers are often obtained through the internet. In the interviews, the findings have come to the conclusion that the teaching has a positive view of nuclear power plants in terms of meeting the energy needs and reducing external dependence. However, the participants pointed out that nuclear power plants could be harmful due to the long-term effects that occur in the event of the explosions of the power plants and the concern that they could damage the ecosystem. The study found that the participants were initially anxious about the construction of a nuclear power plant but were partially convinced by the impact of the active promotion campaigns in the region over time and had a general positive viewpoint. In addition, it is believed that teachers are aware of the positive and negative aspects of nuclear energy. In the light of the results obtained, some recommendations were presented at the end of the research.
This study aimed to determine the views of the science teachers in the Gülnar district of Mersin province regarding the nuclear power plant planned to be constructed in Mersin-Gülnar-Akkuyu region. Case study, one of the qualitative research approaches, was used in this research. The study group consisted of five science teachers employed in the Akkuyu region who were asked nine questions developed by the researchers in regards to the power plant which is in the phase of establishment in the Akkuyu region. The data obtained were analyzed by content analysis. Based on the results, it was concluded that the participating teachers had the required level of knowledge about nuclear energy. In addition, it was determined that the teachers generally obtained information via the internet. The interview findings showed that the teachers were open to the idea of nuclear power plants and thought nuclear power plants met energy needs and reduced dependency on foreign countries. However, the participants stated that nuclear power plants may be harmful due to long-term effects in case of accidents in power plants and they were concerned about the disruption of the ecosystem. This study presented a striking result that at first, the participants were concerned about the construction of the nuclear power plant, but were partially convinced over time by the active promotion campaigns in the region and in general had a positive outlook to nuclear power plants. In addition, it is established that teachers have knowledge about the positive and negative aspects of nuclear energy. The study offers some suggestions in the light of the obtained results.
