Abstract:

The French word collage means pasting. In plastic arts, paper, fabric, photography etc. The technique used to create a composition by gluing objects on a surface is called collage. Considering its place in history, it is seen that the collage technique goes back to very old times. The Huns, one of the Central Asian Turkish states, applied the collage technique on the fabric surface with the applique technique. Collage technique, 20th century. it was first seen in the field of art in Synthetic Cubism. Collage was used in Turkish plastic arts in the 1950s by Sabri Berkel, Zeki Faik İzer and Lütfü Günay, the first representatives of abstract art. Ergin İnan, one of the pioneering names of Contemporary Turkish Painting, is one of our most important artists who paint with the collage technique. He created a unique understanding of painting by synthesizing east and west in his paintings. It brought together the traditional motifs of Anatolia with the symbolic tendencies and technical features of the West. The artist used various symbols in his paintings to express his thoughts. Ergin İnan included reptiles, insects and various creatures in his paintings. İnan emphasized his universal view in his compositions, ignoring the concepts of time and space. At the same time, he used dreams and reality together. He distributed the symbols he used in his paintings over the surface of the painting and created the illusion of continuous movement. In the research, scanning model was used within the scope of descriptive research nature. A literature review was conducted to reveal resources related to the subject. As a result of the research, the place and importance of the collage technique in Ergin İnan's paintings was revealed.
