The Relationship between Alienation Levels and Attitudes Towards Violence on High School Students

Abstract:

In this study, the aim is to determine the relationship between school alienation levels of high school students and their attitude towards violence. Whether the alienation levels of students and their attitudes towards violence differ according to their gender, the education level of their parents and family monthly income are also examined. The sample consists of 300 students (who are) studying in 9 th grade at high schools in the city center of Osmaniye in 2010-2011 academic year. In this scanning model research tool �Personal Information Form�, along with �Student Alienation Scale� and �Adolescents' Attitudes Toward Violence Scale� were used as a means of data collection. According to findings obtained from the data analyzed by statistical methods, it has been concluded that; a significant moderately positive relationship has been found between levels of alienation of adolescents and their attitude towards violence. Moreover, it seems that alienation levels and attitudes towards violence of students do not differ according to the parents� educational status. On the other hand, it is found that male students' attitudes toward violence were higher than girls in the study.
