In this research, it is aimed to examine the professional skills competence of teachers working in special education and rehabilitation centers. The research was designed with phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group of the research consists of 24 special education teachers working in special education rehabilitation centers in Gaziantep city center in 2018-2019 academic year. Semi-structured interview form was used to reveal the views of teachers. According to the results of the research, special education teachers, preparing an education plan suitable for the curriculum and creating a learning environment, the child's needs, individual characteristics, disability status, development, environmental conditions, financial situation of the family, socio-cultural characteristics, the language level of the child, effective communication environment stated that they take national and spiritual values into consideration. The teachers stated that they used empathy, addressing all the senses, repeating patiently, using time effectively, and using different methods and techniques in managing the teaching and learning process and demonstrating the skills required for special education. The teachers stated that they relate the lessons to the daily life of the students, taking into consideration the students with special needs and environmental characteristics, preparing lesson activities for the students and cooperating in the educational activities. Teachers stated that they use objective and fair methods to cope with unwanted behaviors and situations in the classroom, use process and result oriented methods in measurement and evaluation.
