Monolithic zirconia is a biocompatible material that is not cytotoxic and has low bacterial adhesion. Prosthetic rehabilitation using monolithic zirconia may help to prevent complications associated with bilayered ceramics systems. Monolithic zirconia fixed partial dentures represent an alternative option to zirconia based or metal ceramic restorations. Moreover, the use of monolithic zirconia becomes popular for anterior teeth due to their translucent property. This clinical report describes the use of a monolithic ceramic restoration. Good esthetic and functional results were achieved with no complications reported after 12 months Keywords: Monolithic zirconia, fixed partial prothesis, cantilever
Today, the vast majority of full ceramic restorations are made up of monolithic itrium-stabilized tetragonal zirconium polycrystalline (Ytterbium-Y-TZP) ceramics, which show high mechanical characteristics when compared to other ceramics. Mono-litic zirconium is a bioactive material with no cytotoxic effect and low bacterial adhesion. The monolithic zirconium can be used in protein rehabilitation - the complications observed in double layer ceramic systems can be prevented. Monolithic zirconium, zirconium or metal sub-built can be used as an alternative to fixed part protheses. Also, due to the translucence speciality, the use in the anterior area is increasingly prevalent over the day. This clinical report describes the application of cantilever restoration with the monolithic zirconium ceramic system. According to the 12 month results, no complications were observed. Good aesthetic and functional results have been obtained.
