In family farming, women are important actors that work in every stage of production. Women’s determining role draws the attention especially for the phases of production and maintenance as well as the phases of storage and processing of products. Interviews were made in Pamukova regionwith “50 farmer women” for identifying the role of and problems encountered by women in family farming. In this study, random sampling method and semi-structured interview technique were employed. An important result of the research is that women do not define themselves as “farmers” although they are involved in every phase of farming activity. It is observable that the processes of working time, duration, finding workers to be employed, maintenance, harvesting, storage, keeping and processing of the product are all under the responsibility of women. For the women, who carry out a wide variety of farming activities, level of participation in decision making and access to revenues is inadequate. In this context, education programs should be organized for increasing the knowledge and empowerment of women and women’s organization should be encouraged.
