Abstract The article presents results of research conducted in a school of Early Childhood Education, whose central theme involves the work of the pedagogical coordinator in this stage of Basic Education and the influence of public policies on their performance in the public educational institution. The study sought to understand the work developed by this professional, together with the teacher, in the daily life of a public institution of Early Childhood Education, considering municipal public policies. With a qualitative approach, the theoretical-methodological path went through the references on Early Childhood Education, the pedagogical coordinator and the field of public policies, focusing on the approach of the policy cycle. The results of the investigation point to the direct influence of public policies on the performance of the pedagogical coordinator, the divergence of the municipal policy adopted with the texts of the municipal documents themselves and, consequently, the distance from the pedagogical coordinator's practices with what the official documents point out.
