Abstract:

Transformational leadership that leads the needs, beliefs, and values of the members of the organization and enables them to change, is highly effective in ensuring effectiveness and productivity in health care organizations. The aim of this study is to examine in the health workers sample the validity of the scale of transformational leadership which developed specifically for Turkey by Donmez and Toker. The public and the private hospital personnel consisting of physiotherapists, nurses and administrative unit employees were included in this study (N:1682). In the research, 468 questionnaires were applied by using convenience sampling method and 459 questionnaire data were analyzed. The data were collected with the Transformational Leadership Scale, evaluated by explanatory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis.The explanatory coefficient of the scale was calculated as 54% by six dimensions included inspirational motivation (24.05%), participatory approach (7.87%), intellectual stimulation (6.58%), empowerment (5.96%), individualized consideration(5.04%), impact on the personal-life (%4,41). Fit index values of the model goodness were obtained as GFI 0.957; CFI 0.961; RMSEA 0.035; 2 / df 1.549; TLI was obtained as 0.951 (p <0.001). The Cronbach Alpha value calculated for the reliability analysis of the scale is 0.837. The confirmatory factor analysis applied after the corrections made for the model obtained as a result of the explanatory factor analysis showed that the perfect fit was achieved. When the explanatory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis results and the results of the reliability analysis were evaluated together, the transformational leadership scale with 19 items and 6 dimensions was evaluated as a valid and reliable tool for the health workers sample.
