Hastaların Erkek Hemşireler Hakkındaki Görüşleri

Abstract:

Amaç: Bu araştırma, hastanede yatmakta olan hastaların erkek hemşireler hakkındaki görüşlerini değerlendirmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı olarak yapılan bu araştırmanın evrenini, Erzincan Devlet Hastanesi A Blokta yatmakta olan hastalar, örneklemini ise araştırmaya katılmaya gönüllü, iletişim kurulabilen, 18 yaş ve üzerindeki bireyler oluşturmuştur n=189 . Veriler araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan soru formu kullanılarak hastalar ile yüz yüze görüşülerek toplanmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde yüzdelik, ortalama ve ki-kare testi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırma kapsamına alınan hastaların yaş ortalaması 54.35±19.16 olup, %51.9’unun kadın, %50.8’inin okuruazar-ilkokul mezunu ve %49.7’sinin ev hanımı olduğu saptanmıştır. Hastaların %69.3’ünün erkeklerin hemşirelik yapabileceğini bilmediğini, %46.6’sının cinsiyet ayrımının olmaması gerektiği için, %54’ünün ise erkek hastalara erkek hemşirelerin, kadın hastalara bayan hemşirelerin bakım vermesi gerektiği için bu mesleğe erkeklerin alınması gerektiğini düşündüklerini belirtmişlerdir. Hastaların %61.4’ünün hemşirelik mesleğine erkeklerin alınmasının dezavantaj olmayacağını, %37.6’sının mesleki zorlukların hafifleyeceğini, %36.6’sının hasta bakım kalitesinin artacağını düşündüklerini ifade etmişlerdir. Hastaların %38.6’sı erkek hemşirelerin tüm kliniklerde, %33.3’ü acil-yoğun bakım-ameliyathanede çalışmalarının daha uygun olacağını, %62,4’ünün erkek hemşirelerin kadın-doğum kliniği ve %20.1’ide kadın cerrahi kliniğinde çalışmalarının uygun olmayacağını ifade etmişlerdir. Hastanede yatan hastaların yaşına, cinsiyetine, çalışma ve medeni durumlarına göre erkeklerin hemşirelik yapabilme durumu arasındaki farkın anlamsız olduğu belirlenmiştir. Hastaların eğitim durumu ile erkeklerin hemşirelik yapabilme durumu arasında anlamlı bir fark olduğu saptanmıştır. Sonuç: Hastaların hemşirelik mesleğinde erkek hemşirelerin de olması gerektiğini belirttikleri ve mesleki zorlukların kalkması ile hasta bakım kalitesinin artacağını, mesleğe erkeklerin alınmasının dezavantaj olmayacağını ifade ettikleri saptanmıştır. Bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda hemşirelik mesleği ve cinsiyetle ilgili çalışmaların yapılması önerilebilir

Patients’ opinions about male nurses

Purpose: This study was conducted in order to evaluate the opinions of patients in the hospital about male nurses. Tools and methods: The universe of this research, which is performed as a defining, is formed by patients in the Erzincan State Hospital A Block, and their sample is voluntary to participate in the research, able to communicate, 18 years old and older n=189. The data was collected by face-to-face consultations with patients using the question form prepared by the researchers. In the assessment of the data, the percentage, average and ki-core tests were used. Results: The average age of the patients involved was 54.35±19.16, 51.9 percent were women, 50.8 percent were readers-preliminary graduates and 49.7 percent were households. 69 per cent of patients. Three of them said that they don’t know that men can do nursing, 46.6 percent said that men should not have gender differences, and 54 percent said that men should be engaged in this profession because men should have nurses and women should have nurses. 61.4 percent of patients said that men’s inclusion to the nursing profession would not be a disadvantage, 37.6 percent believed that the occupational difficulties would be relieved, and 36.6 percent believed that the quality of patient care would be improved. 38.6 percent of patients said that male nurses would be more suitable for their work in all clinics, 33.3 percent said that they would be more suitable for their work in the emergency-intensive care-hospital, 62.4 percent said that male nurses would not be suitable for their work in the female-born clinic and 20.1 percent said that they would not be suitable for their work in the female surgical clinic. According to the age, gender, work and civil conditions of the patient in the hospital, the difference between the condition of the patient being able to do nursing is insignificant. There is a significant difference between the patient’s educational status and the man’s ability to do nursing. The result: Patients have noted that male nurses should also be in the nursing profession, and they have noted that the quality of patient care will increase with the emergence of professional difficulties, and that the admission of men to the profession will not be disadvantage. These results may be recommended for the work of nursing and gender studies.

Objective: The current study was done in order to assess views of patients who stayed at hospitals about male nurses. Material and Method: The population of this descriptive study was composed of patients who stayed at B Block of Erzincan State Hospital. The sample of the study was consisted of those who volunteered to participate in the study, were able to communicate and aged over 18 years n=189 . The data were collected using a questionnaire designed by the researchers through a face to face interview method. For the data collection; percentages, means and chi-square test were used. Findings: It was seen that mean age of the participants was 54.35±19.16 years, 51.9% of them were female, 50.8% of them were literate or had primary school degree and 49.7% of them were housewives. According to patients’ answers; 69.3% of them did not know that males could work as a nurse. Patients thought that males should be recruited as nurses because 46.6% of them believed that there should not be any sex discrimination, 54% of them believed that male patients should be cared by male nurses while female patients should be cared by female nurses. According to patients; recruiting males for nursing profession would not create a disadvantage 61.4% , would diminish professional difficulties 36.6% , would increase patient care quality 36.6% . Patients told that male nurses could work at all clinics, 38.6% , it would be more appropriate for male nurses to work at emergency-intensive care units and surgery rooms 33.3% but male nurses could not work at clinic of obstetrics and gynecology 62.4% and at surgery clinics for female diseases 20.1% . It was identified that the difference between status of males’ working as nurse and patients’ age, sex, status of work and marital status was insignificant while there was a significant difference between status of males’ working as nurse and patients’ educational status. Conclusion: It was found that patients stated that there should be male nurses too in nursing profession, patient care quality would increase with professional barriers being eliminated and recruiting males in nursing profession would be no disadvantage at all. In the light of these results; it would be recommended that studies on nursing profession and sex would be conducted
