Abstract:

The suspension arm is used to fix the tire and wheel joint laterally by connecting to the shock absorber, to the front knuckle, and to the subframe. In the automotive industry, reducing vehicle cost and weight while maintaining quality is among the main objectives. In this study, optimization studies were carried out by performing weight reduction analyses on the front wishbone. The aim of the study is to create a new front wishbone model with reduced weight and cost while minimizing the amount of material by making changes in the geometry of a selected front wishbone by using the topology optimization method. For this purpose, it is aimed to determine the most suitable design by applying constraints such as displacement and stress, using analysis and topology optimization methods and finite element method. After the static analyses, topology optimization was performed. According to these material distributions, the areas that can be emptied were determined, and new design studies were carried out according to these data. Static analyzes were repeated for each new design, and shape optimization was made with genetic algorithms. It has been determined that the optimum design found is 11.02% lighter than the selected part design.
