Abstract:

Deformation based damage limits for T cross-section reinforced concrete beams, which were mandated in Turkish Building Earthquake Code, 2018 (TBDY, 2018) were analytically investigated to be able to determine the earthquake performance of structural members. The failure stages and nonlinear behavior of T cross-section beams were investigated by using the data obtained from moment-curvature relations. Damage limit values given in TBDY, (2018) were calculated for the designed concrete T cross-section beam models. The deformation limits were calculated for the levels of collapse prevention (GÖ), controlled damage (KH) and limited damage (SH) performance levels as defined in TBDY, (2018). Three different damage limits and the correspondence strain limits were investigated for the T cross-section beams. Damage limits of plastic rotations for GÖ and KH performance levels are functions of yield curvature, ultimate curvature, plastic hinge length, shear length and the diameter of the longitudinal reinforcement. Increasing the compression reinforcement ratios has positive effect on the yield moment 〖(M〗_y), maximum moment 〖(M〗_u), maximum curvature 〖(k〗_u) and limit values of plastic rotations 〖(θ〗_P^((KH)) and θ_P^((GÖ))).
