Aim: To relate the different ways of classifying overweight in sedentary women. Materials and Methods: The sample was comprised of 21 sedentary women aged 18 to 47 years. To diagnose the level of physical activity assessed, the short version of the IPAQ was used. Height and hip circumference (HC) for obtaining BAI, neck circumference to obtain (CP) was evaluated and was valued weight and height to obtain the BMI. We used descriptive statistics: Mean, standard deviation (SD), percentage frequency (%) and the normality of Spearman test was performed to predict the use of parametric tests. We used the chi-square (X2), with a significance level of 0.05 to determine the association between the percentage frequencies in results between anthropometric methods. Data were analyzed using the statistical package BioEstat 5.0. Results: The values found were quite distinct from one method to another. The distribution of the percentages of classification of overweight and obesity prevalence differences between the methods of BAI, CP and BMI were found. No significant correlation between IAC and CP x CP x BMI was found. Therefore was observed a positive and significant correlation between BMI x BAI. Conclusion: through the results it was possible to verify the controversial and difficult to classify overweight, it is worthwhile to emphasize that the method which is used the evaluator should be aware that there is the possibility of false positives and vice versa .and one for the other.
