Abstract:

This study aims to compare the European Union countries and Turkey, a candidate country for the EU, by analyzing the macroeconomic performances for period the between 2016 - 2020. For this purpose, the studies in the literature were examined and the variables to be used in the analysis were determined. These variables are respectively; GDP per capita, investment rate, export rate, import rate, unemployment rate and CPI. The Standard Deviation method was used to determine the weight of the variables in an objective way. In the study, ARAS and COPRAS methods, which are among the multi-criteria decision-making methods, were used to rank 28 member countries of the European Union and Turkey according to their macroeconomic performance. According to the results of the analysis, Luxembourg ranks first and Ireland ranks second in all years according to both ARAS and COPRAS methods between 2016 and 2020. When evaluated in terms of its five-year performance covering the years 2016 - 2020, it is seen that Turkey performs better than only Latvia, Croatia and, Greece according to the ARAS method. When evaluated in terms of its five-year performance covering the years 2016 - 2020 with the COPRAS method, Turkey ranks in the last place
