Abstract

The Byzantine Empire is important in terms of Turkish and World history. The developments in Europe after the Migration of Tribes caused the Romen Empire to split into two. In the developing process, Western Rome was destroyed. The Eastern Rome Empire, on the other hand, contiuned its existence for more than a thousand years. After the victory of Manzikert, the Byzantine Empire began to lose its dominance in Antolia and could not stop the Turkhis raids. For this reason, the Byzantine Emperors continued their struggles with aim of regaining dominance in Anatolia. Ioannes Comnenos II succeeded to sit on the Byzantine throne under difficult conditions. He struggled with the problems in the West and then turned his direction to the East. In this context, the effort of the emperor to recapture the lost lands is the subject of our research on the policies in the Cilicia, Antioch and Syria Regions. It is aimed to convey in detail the struggles of the Byzantine Emperor Ioannes Comnenos II in the context of Eastern policies ant to shed light on the history of the region. In the study, main sources and research works were used. The enthronement of the Byzantine Emperor Ioannes Comnenos II, his dominance in the Cilicia region, the Antioch Campaigns and his struggles with the Muslims are covered. Finally, the subject was ended with the death of Ioannes Comnenos II.
