Abstract:

The last period of the Ottoman Empire has always passed through wars. The Ottoman Empire, which had dreams and goals in order to gain some of the lands it lost, especially its reputation, entered the First World War with great hopes. This war is now a struggle for existence and absence for the Ottoman Empire. When the Ottoman Empire opened the Caucasian Front, it aimed to end the Russian occupation that had been going on for almost forty years in the east of the Ottoman Empire. Operation Sarıkamış was an important battle on this front. Although the Minister of War and Deputy Commanderin- Chief Enver Pasha took the command personally, the war ended with great disappointment. Enver Pasha returned to Istanbul by transferring his command to Hafız İsmail Hakkı Pasha, one of the important names of the Committee of Union and Progress. Hafız İsmail Hakkı Pasha, who was trying to do his best with the rest of an army that failed to fight against a troublemaker like typhus on the one hand, and on the other hand, gave harsher orders sometimes as required by the circumstances. The telegram containing one of these orders also reached Baghdad Governor Suleyman Nazif, who was outside the order of the Third Army. Governor Süleyman Nazif gave a very harsh response to the statements in the telegram. Interior Minister Talat Bey and Enver Pasha were also involved in the event. According to the documents in the archives of the Ottoman state, it was tried to be evaluated before and after the event.
