Abstract:

What do we mean with “Western Civilization”? Recently, Western civilization has been among the main topics of discussion of academic and political environments. The questions about how the concept of Western civilization was built, what historical reality it reflects, or whether the Western civilization is a fiction, come to the beginning of the discussed issues. The aim of this study is to evaluate the material and spiritual dimension of the Western civilization with a comprehensive perspective from the past to the present. To clarify the concept of the West is to study the characteristic characteristics of the concept of the Western civilization on the material level and to reveal its cultural activities around the world. The basic economic structure of the Western civilization is the capitalist form of production. When compared the means of production and social classes of capitalism, the dominant and progressive characteristic of the West is highlighted. It is important to understand the system of values specific to the economic structure of the Western civilization and the spiritual cultural elements formed around its economic structure. At this point, the study of the Christian faith system will help us understand the place, spreadness, sustainability and boundaries of the Western civilization, which is the main actor of the international relations system today in the world.
