Sleep is a highly complex state that remains as one of the great mysteries in neuroscience. Althought sleep/wake cycles are repeated every day and night and almost one-third of our lifetime is spent sleeping, the molecular mechanisms of sleep wake regulation have remained little understood. There are some factors for determining the time, duration and intensity of sleep. Among these factors; neuropeptides and nutrition intensified recently. Some experimental evidence indicates dietary intake of carbohydrate, protein and some essential fatty acids are probably sleep regulating substances.
