Abstract:

It is known that the primary caregiver from the birth of the baby is his mother and he establishes a close relationship with his mother. However, it can be stated that the baby does not only establish a relationship with the mother, and that the father has a critical importance in his development as much as the mother. The roles in the traditional family structure have changed over time, and the father has become involved in the caregiving and raising process of the baby. In this study, it is aimed to examine father-infant interaction through book and game. In the study, the observation model, one of the qualitative research methods, was used and the case study approach was adopted. The study group consisted of 13 infants aged 2-3 years registered in the baby library and their fathers. Personal Information Form and Father-Infant Affect, Responsiveness and Engagement Scale were used as data collection tools. The data were collected by video recording and converted into anecdotal records, and coding was done by using some items of the scale. In the analysis of the data, descriptive analysis was used. As a result, although fathers behaviors of being intrusive, directing and controlling are observed in father-infant interaction, it has been found that they have more positive emotions towards their babies, they participate sensitively in their activities and they structure their games in terms of instruction.
