Abstract:

This study, which examined the role of recreational awareness in the relationship between Facebook’s connectivity strategies and academic delay behaviors of university students, was conducted on a total of 722 university students, including 373 women and 349 men. The research data was collected using the Personal Information Form, the Facebook Connection Strategies Scale (FBSÖ), the Academic Delay Scale (AEÖ) and the Recreation Awareness Scale (RFÖ). In the test of the hypotheses established on the role of mediation in the study, the Pearson Collapse Moments Correlation analysis, the analysis of the structural equality model and the determination of meaning, the Bootstrap ratio and confidence intervals were calculated. In the test of the hypotheses on differences, the Kruskal Wallis test, the Bonferroni correction Mann Whitney-U test was used. The data analysis used SPSS 22.0, AMOS 24.0 and SPSS Macro Process programs. The study finds that there is a negative relationship between Facebook’s connectivity strategies and academic delay behaviors, and that recreation consciousness is partially mediated into this relationship. The study found that students who participated in cultural and social recreational events had higher Facebook connectivity strategies than students who participated in sports recreational events; students who participated in sports recreational events had more academic delay and more recreational awareness than other groups.
