Ülkelerin ve toplumların kalkınmasında önemli rol oynayan tarım sektörünün önemi, küreselleşen ekonomik sistem, artan rekabet ortamları ve hızla değişen pazar şartlarının da etkisiyle giderek artmaktadır. Türkiye, içinde bulunduğu jeopolitik konumu, üç tarafının Akdeniz, Ege ve Karadeniz ile çevrili olması, sahip olduğu akarsular ve ekolojik çeşitlilik nedeniyle gerek bitkisel, gerek hayvansal ve gerek su ürünleri açısından ayrı bir öneme sahiptir. Bu çalışmada tarım sektörü ile ilgili genel bilgilere yer verilmiş, tarım sektörünün ekonomik kalkınma üzerindeki etkileri ile içinde bulunduğu sorunlar üzerinde durulmuştur.
