Chagatai Turkish is the Islamic Central Asian literary Turkish dialect that covers the period of between 15th-20th centuries. This dialect started to take its classic form especially with Ali Şîr Nevâî and it was effective until 1921. It is possible to examine the Chagatai Turkish, which was used in a period of about five hundred years, under three main headings: pre-classical, classical and post-classical periods. Writers who grew up in these periods like Sekâkî, Lutfî, Ataî, Ali Shirr Navâî, Hamîdî, Şeybânî, Bâbur, Ebu’l-Gâzî Bahadır Khan, Sûfî Yâr, Baba Rahîm Mashrab not only the important figures of Central Asian Islamic Turkish literature but also the important names engraved of the whole of Islamic Turkish literature. Baba Rahîm Mashrab, the subject of this study, lived in the post-classical period of Chagatay Turkish. He is an important name of Chagatay Turkish who travelled in most of his life. He said his religious-mystical poems in a didactic style and in the language of the people in the places he visited. In this study the verse quotations in Mashrab’s poems will be determined and try to explain the verses and how the quotations were written by the poet in his poems.
