Geometrik süslemeler Türk sanatının vazgeçilmez bir unsurudur. Hemen hemen her alanda ve her devirde karşılaşılan süsleme özellikle Selçuklu sanatında zirveye ulaşır. Taş, tuğla, çini ve ahşap üzerine uygulanarak en güzel örneklerini veren geometrik süslemeler Tokat yapılarında üç cami örneğinde ahşap üzerinde görülmektedir. Geometrik kompozisyonlar ile ilgili kapsamlı çalışmaların yetersizliği sebebiyle 17. Yüzyıl yapıları olan Mahmutpaşa Cami, Genç Mehmet Paşa Cami ve Ulu Cami örneklerinde tavan göbeklerinde yer alan süslemelerin, biçimsel özellikleri, geometrik desenlerin üslup birliği ve çözümlemeleri yerinde incelenerek aktarılmıştır. Yapılan çalışmada geometrik motifleri çapraz eksenler üzerinde gelişen yıldız motiflerini oluşturan kompozisyonlar ile düz eksenler üzerinde gelişen basit desenler olarak iki grupta incelenir. Yıldız motifleri sekizgen, ongen yıldızların etrafında dört, sekiz ve on kollu yıldızların sekizgen, beşgen ve altıgen şekillerle birleşmesiyle oluşan kompozisyonlardır. Düz eksen üzerinde gelişen basit desenlerden oluşan motifler üçgenler, baklava dilimleri, kare ve dikdörtgen şekilleridir.
Geometric decorations are an indispensable element of Turkish art. The decoration that is encountered in almost every area and every circle reaches the peak, especially in the Selçuklu art. In the study, geometric motifs are studied in two groups as compositions that form the star motifs developing on cross axes and simple patterns developing on flat axes. The star motifs are compositions formed by the combination of four, eight and ten-handed stars around the eight, eight, and six-handed stars with eight, five-handed and six-handed shapes. The motives consisting of simple patterns developing on the straight axis are triangles, baklava shapes, square and straight shapes.
Geometric ornaments have been an indispensable and the most used ornament program in Turkish art. Ornament we come across in almost every field and period reaches the peak in Seljuk art. İt exhibits its most beautiful samples by being applied on stone, brick, tile and wood. It stands out on wood in the three mosque samples we have worked on Tokat‟s structures. The figural features, the style union and the analysis of geometric patterns made with laths on the wood appearing on the ceiling roses in the samples of Mahmutpaşa Mosque, Ulu Mosque and Genç Mehmet Paşa Mosque which are the structures of 17 th century have been investigated on site. In the study, It is analyzed in two groups as the compositions are emerging on the cross axis and simple patterns emerging on straight axis. Star motifs are the compositions formed by combining four, eight and ten armed stars with pentagon and hexagon shapes around the actagonal and decagon stars. The motifs composed of simple patterns emerging on the straight axis are triangle, diamond and rectangle.
