Abstract:

Macroeconomic objectives of economic activities are providing price stability and full employment, reaching a sustainable growth rate, maintaining the balance of payment and achieving a fair distribution of income. Structural problems seen in developing countries such as inflation, unemployment and difficulties in balance of payment become more important along with the economic fluctuations. Overcoming of these problems raises the implementation of the stabilization programs. These countries, who want to leave from economic crisis rapidly and have difficulties to establish macroeconomic stability, have to cooperate with IMF and have to implement IMF supported stability programs because of the need of external recourses. Turkey is one of the countries which encountered this situation frequently. In this study, a due diligence will be made during the period between 1980 and 2010 thereby taking the impact of stability programs supported by IMF on economical variables applied on Turkey after 1980s as a basis.
