Abstract:

This study aims to study the impact of Algodoo-based activities carried out at the 6th Class Force and Movement Unit on students’ design skills and academic achievements. The study used the experimental pattern of the last test control group, the study was conducted with 50 students (25 student control group, 25 student experiment group) in a state high school where students with a medium socioeconomic level were studied in the province of Istanbul. The courses in the research experimental group are processed in the framework of the Algodoo activities based on engineering design developed by the researcher, while the control group follows the science curriculum, processed as the curriculum is forecast. Strength and movement academic success tests, paper sheets, video recordings and researchers' notes form the data collection tools of research. The analysis of the data was used by parametric tests. In order to evaluate the change in the design skills of students in the experimental group, the Engineering Design Process Assessment Degree Score Key has also been used. The research has found that the engineering-based Algodoo activities carried out at the Force and Movement Unit have contributed to increasing student academic achievements. The research also revealed that students evolved from the stage of the engineering design process, the identification of the problem or need, the development of possible solutions, the prototype configuration, the testing of solutions and the evaluation and the presentation of solutions.
