With the recent developments in microprocessors technology and production of strong magnets the interest on Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) increases continuously. PMSM are begun to be used in driver set ups in which asynchronous motors were used before. Especially, with the use of PMSM in direct excitation systems it is now possible to work in a wide speed range. SMSMs are used in different areas like elevators, electrical vehicles, air planes and robotic technology. It is possible to achieve dynamic responses in variable speed applications in driver systems with Field Oriented Control (FOC), one of the vector control methods of PMSM. In this study, simulations are generated with Matlab/Simulink about FOC used in PMSM. Furthermore experimental driver system of SMSM is generated using DS1103 Ace Kit in the laboratory. Using the results of simulations and experimental driver set ups, it is shown that with FOC it is possible to achieve dynamic response in a wide speed range in the driver set up in which PMSM are used.
