Abstract:

The Second World War, with its beginning, development and consequences, affected Turkey as much as many countries. Although there are no striking effects, many elements that are especially directed to foreign policy have benefited from these effects of the war. In this context, the press of the war period has emerged as a means of propaganda that is directed to these effects. In other words, Turkey, which continues its non-war attitude with its balance policy and continues its relations with the opposing states, has effectively used the press in its internal and foreign policy. In this direction, the leading pearls of the Turkish press during the war period, invited or chosen to travel to Britain and Germany. If it is necessary to influence Turkey’s attitude in the beginning and development of the war, it is important to examine these trips that appear to be in line with the propaganda targets of the opposition leaders. In this article, the general state of the pre-war Turkish press was first introduced, based on authorship and inspection works. Later, in the days of the pre-war London, the West Front was re-evaluated in the light of the London, 1942 Berlin and 1942 London trips, the press of the period and the information reflected in the memories of the subsequent years. The study also sought to reveal a comprehensive view of the Turkish journalists’ London-Berlin trips between 1939 and 1942. The views and impressions of the visitors will contribute to a better understanding of the relations of Turkey with the opposing countries during World War II.
