Abstract:

The date of the general elections of 1954 was approved by the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group on 11 February 1954 with the proposal of Prime Minister Menderes on the way to hold the general elections on 2 May. The pre-election opposition parties united power unity work began, negotiations between the Republican People's Party and the Republican People's Party resulted negative. Since the elections of 1954, the majority of the DP has won, the opposition has failed to go out of the box, the new period has been effective in the formation of power and opposition relations.The opposition power unity has taken steps before the elections of 1957, there has been intense cooperation work between the CHP and the Hürriyet Party born within the DP. The opposition parties that saw the decline in the votes of the DP as an opportunity in the election results, and in 1958 the National Opposition Front was established. The Democratic Party has responded to the unification of the opposition by establishing the Patriotic Front. In this article, the reactions of the opposition to the Front of the Fatherland, which is based in response to the opposition's efforts to unite the power, and the process of the country's polarization will be discussed primarily using the press sources.
