Abstract:

2023 is a special year that includes the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey and political elections of critical importance for Turkey, especially the presidential electoral. The expression “the year of 2023”, one of the popular political concepts frequently used in recent years, is used in various ways by politicians. The year 2023, which is one of the central themes of the People’s Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı), is accepted as a historical threshold in the political conjuncture. 2023, which is the discourse equivalent of political demand, that mediates the re-imagination of nationalism, the relationship between the mythical and the truth, and the strengthening of the political coalition, is considered as the annus mirabilis. This study aims to examine the way 2023 is framed in the discourse of nationalist political actors and the details on the 2023 axis of nationalist ideals. In this context, the news about 2023 on the website of the Türkgün newspaper, the publication organ of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), will be analyzed through the projections in the nationalist discourse. Thus, it will be revealed that themes and codes 2023 is framed in the nationalist discourse. The article reveals that the theme of 2023 in the discourse of nationalist political actors is built with a unifying bond, a common future construction and mythical details. The aforementioned findings are categorized under the sub-headings of the astute Turkish nation, historical memory, political hero, miraculous future and the construction of the other and are examined within the framework of Wodak’s discourse analysis method.
