Özet:

This investigation was performed in order to determine the state and trait anxiety levels of the students who attend the last classes of the high schools and the effects of some factors on anxiety levels. The study was performed in the provincial centre of Kayseri in 2006. Two high schools were chosen randomly. Totally 342 students were included in the study. A questionnaire of 27 questions about demographic, psychosocial and educational characteristics of the students and the State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was applied. Unpaired t test and one way ANOVA test were used for statistical analysis. Mean state and trait anxiety scores in the study group were 42.7±12.0 and 43.9±9.0 respectively. State anxiety scores of the students in Anatolian high school were found higher than the normal high school. Both the state and trait anxiety levels of female students were higher than the males. Anxiety levels of the students who rated their health condition as poor, whose relations with their family members and the friends were not good and those who were hopeless about the future were found higher the other students. As a result; it was suggested that the perceptions of the students about their health status, relations with their family members and with the friends and the expectations about the future may affect anxiety levels of the students.
