Abstract:

Today, the increase in the elderly population and the place of care offered to this population by family members to the institution’s care has increased interest in the institution’s care elements. This study was done to identify the relationship between social support and job and life satisfaction that the elderly care members perceive. From February 2018 to June 2018, Demetevler Fatma Üçer, Çubuk Abidin Yılmaz and Elmadağ Huzurevi Senior Care and Rehabilitation Centers included 106 elderly care staff working in institutions related to the work carried out in Ankara. The study applied the Social-Demographic Characteristics of Careers to Care Elements Information Form, Multi-Dimensional Social Support Scale, Lifetime Scale and Minnesota Business Satisfaction Scale. While 69.4 percent of the elderly care workers have the perception that they are social support, their work satisfaction assessments were 60% positive and 73% were satisfied with life. It has been found that there is no relationship between social support and work satisfaction that the care members perceive, but there is a relationship with life satisfaction. The social support of those who do not have any physical, mental or social problems and those who do not have any job satisfaction is higher. Further research to determine the factors that affect the work and life satisfaction of the care staff in the institution, to determine what health problems affect the work satisfaction and to take the necessary interventions to address these problems can be beneficial for both supporting the care staff and improving the quality of care.
