Orthodontic and Surgical Management of Severe Skeletal Class II Malocclusion – A Case Report

Abstract:

Treatment approaches for skeletal class II malocclusion include: Growth modification in growing individuals, camoflauge orthodontics, and surgical correction in adults. As with camoflauge orthodontics in adults, severe skeletal class II problem cannot be corrected, surgical treatment remains the best option for such patients requiring improved esthetics. The case report describes bi-jaw surgical (maxillary impaction with Lefort I maxillary osteotomy, mandibular advancement with Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy and genioplasty), and orthodontic correction of severe skeletal class II malocclusion in a 20 years old male with the retrognathic maxilla, retrognathic mandible, maxillary occlusal cant, and vertical growth pattern.
