Abstract:

The sentences issued as a result of the trials by the woman, the letters sent from the center and the books containing the letters that the women make with each other or with other administrators are called the Sheriff Register. The Sher'iya registers, where traces are from all aspects of social life, have an important place in the research on the Ottoman social structure. The most detailed documents in terms of matters, such as marriage, divorce, are related to our subject. The concept of family is defined in different forms in different societies, in different scientific fields. But family is the name given to the most basic social unit formed as a result of a woman and a man’s marriage. The family, called the smallest unit of the social structure, has remained under the guidance of many religious, cultural, economic, social and political factors when and within its existence. There are different family models in different communities. In this context, we work on the basis of Urfa Sher's registers of XIX. The family structure in Urfa will be studied in the century. In the framework of the study, in Urfa, the marriage and marriage forms of Muslims and non-Muslims have been tried to determine whether there is a difference in terms of the number of spouses and children between a Muslim family and a non-Muslim family. The fact that the city has ethnic wealth and the combination of different cultures and beliefs will contribute to our assessment of the family structure in Urfa from different aspects.
