Abstract:

The community consists of families. Therefore, it matters that to know in family relationships in terms of to know the community. At the same time, it also matters in terms of knowing the family understanding of rising generations in today’s world of change. This research, in the face of changing conditions, has been created by the phenomenology pattern among the qualitative research methods to find out by metaphors students' understanding of the concept "family". The research has been conducted with 293 students studying in the 2020-2021 education term who are chosen by the random sampling method. The data has been obtained by Google Forms. Detailed explanations are included in the form; The participants were asked to create metaphors about the concept “family” with a single open-ended question such as “The family is like…, because…”. The metaphors created were evaluated by taking expert opinion and 60 forms were eliminated because no metaphors were created. The remaining 233 metaphors have been grouped in terms of common features and classified under eight conceptual themes created by experts. It has been seen that the students frequently described the family as the sun and tree as a consequence of the assessments. While this result coincides with the data of other studies in the literature, another noteworthy point is the conceptual themes created by the participants for the concept “family” are generally positive.
