Özet:

Introduction: The relationship between an inflammatory diet and the increased risk for the development of overweight and obesity has been shown. Objective: To analyze the relationship between the Dietary Inflammatory Index and anthropometric markers of nutritional status in a population of rural workers. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study that included 103 family members of rural workers. Food intake was determined using three 24-hour dietary recalls and estimation of the Inflammatory Index using the IF Tracker® application. Nutritional status was assessed using Body Mass Index, Waist Circumference, Body Shape Index and Body Roundness Index. Results: The diet of this population proved to be strongly inflammatory. A positive but not significant correlation was found between the inflammatory potential and all the anthropometric index (p>0.05). Also, the means of these variables did not differ significantly in relation to the Inflammatory Index quartiles (p=0.941, p=0.719, p=0.696, p=0.511, respectively). However, there was a strong and significant direct relationship of Body Shape Index means with Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference (p=0.000 for both). Discussion: Studies that evaluated the food intake of groups in situations of risk and social vulnerability show a habitual inflammatory food intake. Conclusions: The Dietary Inflammatory Index did not influence the nutritional status of this population. The Body Roundness Index was associated with BMI and WC, thus suggesting that this tool may be used to assess the risk of comorbidities associated with obesity.
