Abstract:

The relationship of nationalism ideology with social gender has been a matter that has not been focused on for many years. In recent periods, especially nationalist projects and practices have made it possible to treat women and men differently, and the work on social gender has been discussed together with the ideology of nationalism. The absence of women in the project and practice has led to a new topic of debate in the field of women's work. Particularly in the processes of national identity building, the policies aimed at women’s automation are considered as examples of nationalism as a concrete present. The position of the woman in the private and public sphere is changing and transformed in nationalist policies. Specifically national struggle, during war periods, the female body is sanctified as a part of the country, namus, and land, while on the one hand, the role of motherhood is placed in the private area within the family. The aim of this study is to discuss the relationship between social gender and nationalism within the framework of feminist literature and to discuss the discussions on how the concept of social gender has changed in nationalist statements and how it is used in the process of building national identity and how the female positions have changed.
