Abstract:

ABSTRACT After the liberation of Izmir and Bursa, the Turkish army turned to Istanbul and Çanakkale to clear Eastern Thrace from the Greek army, and a chain of events called the Chanak Crisis occurred. In the face of this situation, which brought Turkey and England to the brink of a new war, thanks to the rational attitude of the parties, especially Mustafa Kemal Pasha and General Charles Harington, the start of a conflict was prevented and ceasefire negotiations were started in Mudania. After the World War I, there were border problems with Yugoslavia in Italy, and as a result of internal instability, the footsteps of the Fascists towards power were heard. Despite these domestic and foreign political preoccupations, the subject of ending the war in Anatolia and what to do next comes to the fore in the Italian press. During this period, the process of the Mudania Armistice Conference is followed closely by the Italian press, and the news about it is frequently featured in the major Italian newspapers of the period with different political views. In this study, the reflections of the military and political developments in the Italian public opinion that took place before and after the Mudania Armistice Agreement were explained by using the news and comments in the Italian press.
