Araştırma, sınıf öğretmenlerinin fen bilimleri konularının içeriğini belirlemedeki kişisel kriterlerini ortaya koymayı amaçlamıştır. Öğretmenlerin derslerini planlarken en önemli değişkenlerden biriside ders içeriğidir. Öğretim içeriği, ister ders kitapları olsun, ister diğer kaynaklarca oluşturulsun öğretiminin kalitesini etkiler. Tarama modeline göre tasarlanmış araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan anket kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini 2014-15 öğretim yılında Kütahya il merkezinde çalışmakta olan araştırmaya gönüllülük esasına bağlı olarak katılan 160 sınıf öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır.Öğretmenlerin ders içeriğini belirlerken izledikleri yollar, içeriğin programdaki kazanımlara uygunluğu ve içeriğin etkililiğinin arttırılmasına ilişkin görüşleri alınmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; sınıf öğretmenlerin büyük bir kısmı öğretimde içeriği çok önemli bir öğe olarak görmektedirler. Öğretmenler içeriği oluştururken ve düzenlerken en çok devlet kaynaklarından, ikinci olarak ise en fazla internet kaynaklarından yararlanmaktadırlar. İçeriği belirlemedeki en önemli kriterleri ise içeriğin öğrenci ihtiyaçlarına uygun olmasıdır.
