Savaşların neden olduğu yıkım, bölgesel ya da küresel ölçekte kalıcı bir barışın mümkün olup olamayacağı konusunu hemen her devirde gündemde tutmuştur. Barışın sağlanması konusunda önemli girişimlerde bulunan ve değerli fikirler üreten kişi ve örgütler dikkatle izlenerek çeşitli oluşumlar tarafından desteklenmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, barış girişimlerine uluslararası düzeyde destek yöntemlerinden biri olan ödülleri gündeme getirmek ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devleti’nin kurucusu adına hayata geçirilmiş bir devlet ödülünün durumunu değerlendirmektir. Çalışmanın araştırma yöntemini, Türk Devrim Tarihinin dönemsel kaynakları, yasal mevzuat ve konu ile ilgili basın haberlerinin incelenmesi oluşturmuştur. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ün savaşın hemen her çeşidine katılmış, gazilikle onurlanmış ve mareşal rütbesine ulaşmış eski bir asker olması, onun barış kavramına verdiği değer ve önemi daha anlamlı kılmıştır. “Yurtta Barış, Dünyada Barış” ilkesi doğrultusunda, dünya barışına katkı sağladığı değerlendirilen gerçek ve tüzel kişilerin ödüllendirilmesi düşüncesi, bu bakış açısının bir yansımasıdır. Bu düşünceyle hayata geçirilen Atatürk Uluslararası Barış Ödülü, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin bir devlet ödülü olarak ilk kez 1986 yılında verilmiş, bazı yıllar ödüle uygun kişi bulunamadığı ve mevzuat gerekçesiyle verilmemiş ve en son 2000 yılında sahibini bulmuştur. Atatürk’ü anmak üzere düzenlenmiş ödül başlangıcından itibaren tartışmaların da gölgesinde kalmıştır. Yakın geçmişte yapılan hukuki düzenlemelere rağmen 2020 yılında da ödül verilmemiş olup gelecek beş yıl da verilemeyecektir.
The destruction caused by wars has kept on the agenda of the question of whether a permanent peace on a regional or global scale is possible or not. Individuals and organizations that are in important efforts to ensure peace and produce valuable ideas have been carefully monitored and supported by various formations. The aim of this study is to present awards, which are one of the methods of support for peace initiatives on the international level, and to assess the status of a state award implemented on behalf of the founder of the Republic of Turkey State. The research method of the study was the study of periodic sources of the Turkish Revolution History, legal legislation and news related to the subject. The fact that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was an old soldier who participated in almost every kind of war, honored by the gathering and reached the marshal rank, made his value and importance to the concept of peace more meaningful. In accordance with the principle of "Peace in the Country, Peace in the World", the idea of rewarding the real and legal persons who are considered to contribute to world peace is a reflection of this point of view. The Atatürk International Peace Prize was first awarded in 1986 as a state prize of the Republic of Turkey, some years failed to find a person suitable for the prize and was not given for legislative reasons and last found its owner in 2000. The awards that were organized to commemorate Atatürk have remained in the shadow of the discussions since the beginning. Despite recent legal regulations, the prize will not be awarded in 2020 and will not be awarded for the next five years.
