Documentaries are about what has happened, what is happening, and what will happen. A documentary takes the picture of life. In this photograph, sometimes there is pain, sometimes tears, sometimes happiness, sometimes joy, sometimes war, sometimes screams, and sometimes tears, etc. The language of this presentation brings forth the style, narrative structure, format, form and type of the documentary. The subjects, events, facts, people, objects, places, and similar other objects shown in the documentary depends on the specified format, narrative structure and genre, which are blended, drawn and edited in the documentary. In this process, the production of the documentary occurs for social purposes. The basic purpose of the documentary is to change the perspectives of people. In the present study, which was dealt with in this context, the subjects such as what the documentary film is, its types, the effects of documentary films on the expectations of the audience were discussed in a theoretical context. These topics were examined in the narrative structure of the television documentary films, and were then discussed in the context of the documentary film “Renkler” (i.e. “the Colors”), which was selected as an example for the present study. The analysis of the documentary “Renkler”, which was selected as an example for the study, was carried out with the Content Analysis Method. The purpose of the study was to seek the answers to the following questions: Which of the audience expectations were met in the documentary that was analyzed? Did the narrative structure of the documentary “Renkler” meet the expectations of the audience? The universe of the study consisted of all television documentaries broadcast on national television channels in Turkey in 2019. The documentary “Renkler”, which was presented by Ayhan Sicimoğlu, was selected as the sampling in line with the Purposeful Sampling Method. In the Result part of the study, it was concluded that the narrative characteristics of the television documentary “Renkler” were effective in meeting the expectations of the audience.
