Abstract:

The present research sought to analyze the motivational factors for the sport that influence the professional athletes to participate in football competitions. The study characterized by a descriptive investigation had as subjects of the study 15 male athlete's professionals of football of a federated club of Porto Alegre. The questionnaire created by Gill et al., (1983), composed of 30 questions, divided into 8 categories (status, team, physical form, liberated energy, abilities, friends, fun and others / situational) and evaluated on a 4-point Likert scale: 04 extremely important; 03 quite important; 02 little important; 01 nothing important. The data collected were analyzed through the SPSS 20.0 Statistical Program. The results obtained showed a tendency towards the dimensions of improvement of the abilities and to play in team. In this way, it is indicated that the professionals responsible for the technical committee should be attentive to these motivational aspects that may influence their athletes in improving performance.
