The history of Russia and Iran relations Show that the relations had been limited. But the changing international conjuncture and the shift in the political structure of the two countries has resulted in development of the relations. Iran’s anti-imperial stance in post revolution era and Russian Federation’s quest for becoming a global power again, have provided the countries to meet on a common ground. In this context, especially by the 1990s, there have occurred economic and nuclear cooperation agreements between the two countries. It can be claimed as well that the regionals interests of the two countries are overlapping. Particularly, the two countries’ approaches to the reflections of the Arab civil upheavals started in 2010 on Syria are very parallel to each other. Russia and Iran, given that they have different expectations in this frame, have developed common interests in their strategic cooperation during the Syrian crisis. In this study, the relations between Russian Federation and Iran Islamic Republic will be investigated in terms of the Syrian crisis. In order to analyze the merging common interests and different expectations of the two countries, the relations of the both countries with Syria and the policies they have developed for Syrian crisis will be scrutinized in detail.
