Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed to examine the secondary school acquisitions of the 2019 Turkish Curriculum in terms of key competencies in the Turkey Qualifications Framework. In the examination process, considering the characteristics of the communication key competence in foreign languages, the key competence of "communication in foreign languages" was not included among the eight key competences included in the Turkish Qualifications Framework. The data in the study were collected by document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, and the obtained data were analyzed with the descriptive analysis method. As a result of the study, when the compatibility of the acquisitions with the key competencies was examined according to all secondary school grades (5-8th grades) and in specific grades, it was seen that the competencies “communication in the mother tongue”, “learning to learn”, “cultural awareness and expression” were the most compatible ones with the acquisitions. It has been found that the skill areas most compatible with the key competencies are respectively reading, writing, listening and speaking. It has been also seen that in terms of grade levels, the 7th grade acquisitions are the most compatible with the key competencies, followed by the 8th grade acquisitions. It was found that the fifth and sixth grade acquisitions were compatible in equal numbers. As a general result of the study, it was concluded that the key competencies were not evenly distributed among the acquisitions.
