Bu çalışmanın amacı ortaokul matematik öğretmenlerinin matematik öğretim programında yer alan değerler eğitimine yönelik görüşlerinin incelenmesidir. Bu amaçla yapılan çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan olgu bilim deseni kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya amaçlı örnekleme yoluyla seçilen 10 ortaokul matematik öğretmeni katılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak 10 açık-uçlu sorudan oluşan anket kullanılmıştır. Veriler içerik analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre öğretmenlerin değerler eğitiminden haberdar oldukları ancak bununla ilgili ne hizmet içi ne de hizmet öncesi bir eğitim almadıkları tespit edilmiştir. Öğretmenler, matematik derslerinde değerlere yer verirken sabır, dürüstlük gibi bazı değerleri öğretmede zorluk yaşadıklarını belirtmişlerdir ve değerler eğitimiyle ilgili öğretmenlerin bilgilendirilmesi gerektiğini, öğretim programında kazanımlara ilişkin değerlerin daha detaylı olması gerektiğini ve sadece matematik derslerinde değil ayrı bir ders olarak verilmesi gerektiğini vurgulamışlardır. Öğretmenlerden bazıları matematiğin değerlere sahip olmayan bir ders olduğunu düşünmektedir. Ancak matematik derslerinde değerlerin öğretilmesi öğrencilerin bilişsel, duyuşsal ve sosyokültürel alanda gelişimlerine katkıda bulunacağından matematik öğretmenlerine değerler eğitiminin önemi hakkında bilgilendirmeler yapılabilir ve matematik derslerinde değerler eğitimine yer vermeleri teşvik edilebilir.
This study aims to investigate the views of secondary school mathematics teachers on values education included in mathematics teaching program. For this purpose, phenomenological method which is one of the qualitative research methods was used. 10 secondary school mathematics teachers who were chosen by purposive sampling method participated in the study. A 10 open-ended question survey was used as the data collection tool. The data were analyzed through content analysis. According to the findings obtained, the teachers are aware of values education but have gotten no in service or pre-service training related to this. They stated that they have difficulty in teaching values like patience, honesty and etc. in mathematics classes and added that teachers should be informed on values education, values towards attainments should be covered in more details in the teaching program and that those values should be given not only in mathematics classes but as a seperate class. Some of the teachers think that mathematics is a lesson without values. However, since teaching values in mathematics classes will contribute to the cognitive, affective and sociocultural development of students, mathematics teachers can be informed on the significance of values education and be encouraged to include it in their classes.
