Abstract:

Purpose: In our clinic Halluks Valgus (HV) deformity is the conservative treatment method of the patient's night atelier application with the aim of the study of the changes in HV angles and functional scores in their followings Material and Method: between January 2017 - May 2018 Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Yenimahalle Education and Research Hospital, the patient who received the diagnosis of HV deformity from the clinic of ortopedi and traumatology formed the work group of this retrospective research. In the study group, 227 patient files were scaned backward. The patient's foot radiography has an HV angle above 25 degrees and the changes in the HV angle and functional scores of the patients treated with a 6-month night atelier (splint) (n=76) were recorded by comparisons before and after treatment. Results: In our study group (n=76); among the application causes of HV deformity, which is more common in the female population (n=68) the pain (53.94%), the cosmetic disorder (46.05) were in the forefront and the symptoms were more frequent in standing professions (n=33 / 75.75%). There was no significant decrease in HV angles (p=0,563) after 6 months of night atelier use, but there was a significant improvement in functional scores ( pain; p=0,022 and function; p=0,031) observed. The result: the long-term use of the night atelier in the patient group with HV deformity in the middle and advanced age groups with high HV angles has provided significant improvement in functional scores with a partial reduction in the HV perspective. Despite its high HV angles, long-term night atelier application in the patient group that does not want surgery may be beneficial in improving the quality of life.
