Çörek otu (Nigella Sativa L.), çok eski çağlardan beri birçok hastalığın tedavisinde kullanılan Ranunculaceae familyasının türü olup; küçük çalı ve düğün çiçeğigiller ailesine ait çiçekli bir bitkidir. Güney Asya'da Kalonji, Arapça’da Habbat-uL-Sauda, İngilizce siyah kimyon, Almanca Scharzkummel, Latince Nigella Sativa L., ülkemizde çörek otu, kara çörek otu ve siyah kimyon olarak adlandırılmaktadır . Çörek otu besin maddelerinden zengin, çok killi ve çok kumlu olmayan sıcak toprakları sevmektedir. Çiçekleri ağırlıklı olarak beyaz, sarı, pembe, açık mavi veya lavanta rengindedir. Meyveleri geniş ve şişmiş kapsül içinde, aromalı ve acı tadı olan siyah tohumlar içermektedir. Tohumları çay, kahve veya ekmeklere eklendiği gibi konserve üretiminde ayrıca öğütülmüş şekli bal ile karıştırılarak veya salatalara, yoğurda eklenerek; ayrıca doğal bir ilaç olarak kullanıldığı gibi baharat, çeşni ve aromatik amaçlı olarak da kullanıma sahiptir. Bu derlemenin amacı, çörek otu hakkında yayınlanmış bilimsel raporlar hakkında kapsamlı bir inceleme sağlamaktır.

Nigella Sativa L. is a species of the Ranunculaceae family that has been used for the treatment of many diseases since ancient times; it is a flowered plant belonging to the family of small trees and wedding flowers. Kalongji in South Asia, Habbat-uL-Sauda in Arabic, English is called black kimion, German is called Scharzkummel, Latin is called Nigella Sativa L., in our country it is called a cranberry, a black cranberry and a black kimion. She loves hot soil, rich in nutrients, very flushed and not very sandy. The flowers are mainly in white, yellow, pink, clear blue or lavanta color. The fruit contains widespread and swollen capsules, black seeds with a flavorful and painful taste. The seeds are added to the tea, coffee or bread in the conserve production, as well as mixed with the melted form of honey or added to salads, yogurt; it is also used for spices, varieties and aromatic purposes as it is used as a natural medicine. The purpose of this collection is to provide a comprehensive review of the published scientific reports on the grape tree.
