Abstract:

The relations between India and Turkey are very old. The Turks, who have kept India home for about eight centuries, have left many literary and architectural works. India, which has remained in the domination of Turkey for eight centuries and is able to compete with Anadolu in cultural diversity, has been very influenced by Turkish culture. This effect is more common in the Indian and Urdu language spoken in India. Although Turkey is not accepted as the official language of India, it has left its own place to Urdu and Indian. Today, the number of common words between Indian, Urdu and Turkish reaches about nine thousand. But when the British entered India, the Turkish was forgotten in India and most of the Turkish works were brought to England. The remaining work has not been done sufficiently. But at the Jamia Millia Islamic University in Delhi, TIKA and the Yunus Emre Institute have jointly conducted the Turkish program since 2006, aimed at gaining the spread of Turkish. At Jamia Millia Islamic University, Turkish teaching, as a result of the initiatives of TIKA, began in the 2006-2007 academic year and has been continued with the support of the Yunus Emre Institute since 2010. Under the roof of the Faculty of Humanities and Foreign Languages, the courses opened under the certificate program, in the follow-up process, have gained impulsion, respectively, with the Diploma and Higher Diploma programs. As a result of the interest shown by students in the above programs, the 2012-2013 academic year the Bachelor of Turkish Language and Literature program was opened and received the first student records. The article we work on will focus on the development of the department, which is at the degree level today, starting with the certificate program at Jamia Millia Islamic University in 2006 and advancing towards the opening of the master's program. In addition, another university in the Indian state of Delhi, Jawaharlal River also has selectively available Turkish courses in the framework of the protocol of the Yunus Emre Institute and in our article we will also discuss the reasons why students studying in language and literature departments such as Arabic, English, Persian and other languages prefer Turkish.

As a result of the interest shown by the students to the above programs, the undergraduate program of Turkish Language and Literature was opened in the 2012-2013 academic year and the first student enrolled. In the article we are working on; it will focus on the development of the department that started with the Certificate program at Jamia Millia İslamia University in 2006 and is currently at the undergraduate level and proceeding to open the graduate peogram. In addition, Jawaharlal Nehru, another university in the state of Delhi in India, offers elective Turkish courses in accordance with the protocol of the Yunus Emre Institute, and the article will also examine the reasons why students of Arabic, English and Persian language prefer Turkish.
